The C-121 Constellation is a military transport and reconnaissance aircraft derived from the iconic Lockheed L-749 and L-1049 Super Constellation airliners. Introduced in the late 1940s, the C-121 served with the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Navy in a variety of roles, including cargo transport, personnel movement, and airborne early warning. Powered by four Wright R-3350 radial engines, it combined long range, high altitude capability, and reliability, making it ideal for transoceanic operations. Distinctive for its elegant triple-tail design and graceful, curved fuselage, the C-121 was both functional and visually striking. Later variants, such as the EC-121 Warning Star, were equipped with powerful radar systems for surveillance and command missions during the Cold War. The C-121 played a vital role in bridging the gap between World War II-era transports and modern jet-powered military aircraft.
