Equipped with the F-100 Super Sabre, the 493rd TFS "Grim Reapers"/48th TFW moved to RAF Lakenheath, England in January 1960. Before receiving the F-111F Aardvark, the squadron flew the F-4 Phantom II until 1977 and had gone through a few more trades. Produced in 1970, the F-111F was assigned to the CO of the 493rd TFS.< /br>
