The McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II is an American tandem two-seat, twin-engine, all-weather, long-range supersonic jet interceptor and fighter-bomber. Originally developed for the United States Navy, it entered service in 1961 and became a major part of the U.S. Marine Corps and Air Force. With over 5,195 aircraft built, it holds the record as the most produced American supersonic military aircraft. The Phantom boasts a top speed of over Mach 2.2 and can carry more than 18,000 pounds of weapons on nine external hardpoints. It played a crucial role during the Vietnam War and remained in service until 1996
