Identified as the second U.S. Jet to ever attain production status, the F-84 showed superior overall performance with the exception of maneuverability. This aircraft was capable of transporting a significant load while in fighter-bomber mode and also had a range to be an effective bomber escort as well. Originally, the Thunderjet was manufactured in 1949 to be used by the Strategic Air Command as a fighter-escort, led by the legendary Colonel Don Blakeslee of the 31st Fighter Escort Wing.
