The F4F-4 Wildcat, a carrier-based fighter used by the U.S. Navy during World War II, featured foldable wings, a key design enhancement that allowed for efficient storage on crowded aircraft carriers. Powered by a Pratt & Whitney R-1830 engine, it could reach speeds of up to 330 mph and was armed with six .50 caliber machine guns. Its rugged construction and folding wings made it highly durable and space-efficient, earning it the nickname "The Iron Works." The Wildcat played a crucial role in early Pacific engagements, including the Battle of Midway, where it helped secure American air superiority.
