Gen. Henry H. "Hap" Arnold, American aviation pioneer, was instrumental in the formation of the U.S. Air Force as a coequal service branch. As Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army Air Corps, he and a designer came up with the "Hap Arnold Wings," with partial inspiration coming from the Winston Churchill "V for Victory" photo.
