The BAC Jet Provost T.Mk 5 is a British jet-powered trainer aircraft developed in the late 1950s and widely used by the Royal Air Force. Evolving from the earlier piston-engine Provost, the T.Mk 5 introduced a turbojet engine, giving trainee pilots experience with jet performance in a safe, forgiving platform. Its tandem two-seat cockpit, straightforward handling, and robust construction made it ideal for teaching basic flight, aerobatics, and instrument flying. Powered by a single Armstrong Siddeley Viper turbojet, the aircraft could reach speeds of around 440 mph while remaining economical and reliable. Many air forces around the world adopted the T.Mk 5 and its variants. Known for its agility, durability, and simplicity, it helped train generations of pilots before being replaced by more modern jet trainers in the 1970s and 1980s.
