Charles III (born 1948) became King of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms in 2022 following the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II. As the eldest son of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, he was the longest-serving heir apparent in British history before ascending the throne. Educated at Gordonstoun and the University of Cambridge, Charles later founded The Prince's Trust in 1976, supporting young people in education and employment. He has long been known for his interest in environmental conservation, sustainable architecture, and interfaith dialogue. As monarch, Charles III serves as a constitutional head of state, undertaking ceremonial duties, representing the nation abroad, and supporting charitable and community initiatives across the United Kingdom and Commonwealth.
