The MH-60 Black Hawk is a versatile, twin-engine, medium-lift helicopter used primarily by the U.S. military. A variant of the UH-60, the MH-60 is specially configured for special operations, search and rescue, and maritime missions. It features advanced avionics, night vision systems, and the capability to carry troops, cargo, or weapons. With a top speed of over 150 knots and a range of 320 nautical miles, it excels in rapid deployment and precision missions. Its robust airframe and survivability enhancements make it ideal for high-risk operations, while its modular design allows customization for varied mission requirements across diverse environments.

During the 1993 Battle of Mogadishu, MH-60 Black Hawks played a critical role in U.S. Army special operations. Operated by the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (SOAR), also known as the "Night Stalkers," these helicopters were essential for inserting and extracting Delta Force operators and Army Rangers during a mission to capture Somali warlord lieutenants. Equipped with advanced navigation, communications, and night vision systems, the MH-60s flew low and fast through hostile urban terrain. However, two Black Hawks—Super 61 and Super 64—were shot down by RPG fire, leading to a prolonged and intense firefight on the ground. The crash sites became the focal point of the battle, requiring rescue efforts under heavy enemy fire. Despite their losses, the MH-60s showcased their versatility, durability, and importance in urban warfare and combat search-and-rescue operations. Their involvement in Mogadishu highlighted both the risks of helicopter operations in dense environments and the bravery of their crews.
