The Phantom II was initially designed as a U.S. Navy Fleet defense aircraft when it entered service in 1961. It's a two-seat, supersonic long-range all-weather fighter-bomber that soon became one of the few aircraft used by the Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps. A large nose and rugged design gave the RF-4E the nickname "Rhino." Currently, this aircraft serves in about 11 other countries with 14 variants and 5,201 available after production ended in 1979.
