The Supermarine Spitfire Mk.VIII was a key World War II fighter developed as an improvement over earlier models. Powered by a Rolls-Royce Merlin 61 or 63 engine, it reached speeds over 400 mph and offered enhanced high-altitude performance. The Mk.VIII featured a strengthened airframe and could carry external fuel tanks, extending its range for long escort missions. Armed typically with two 20mm cannons and four .303 machine guns, it balanced firepower and agility. Used extensively in Europe and the Pacific, the Mk.VIII was versatile in air-to-air combat and ground-attack roles, helping maintain Allied air superiority during the mid to late stages of the war.
