About the Leyte campaign
Gen. Douglas MacArthur's return to the Philippines began with the Leyte landings in October 1944, fulfilling his 1942 pledge to return, and Allied forces continued operations on Leyte into early 1945 as they worked to secure the island and push toward Luzon.
