The East India Company was founded in 1600 and went on to rule parts of the Indian Subcontinent from 1757 to 1858. This coin, containing the company's logo on the obverse and the denomination on the reverse, was part of the cargo of the Admiral Gardner. The ship wrecked in 1809 but the wreakage was not discovered until 1984 when dive teams pulled these coins from the bottom of the ocean.
