Johnny Martin served with the 101st Airborne Division during World War II as part of one of the U.S. Army's most celebrated airborne units. Like many paratroopers, he underwent demanding training that emphasized physical endurance, marksmanship, and small-unit leadership before deploying to combat in Europe.
