In the earliest days of the Republic — and even in the years leading up to the fight for independence — much of the non-British currency circulated in the Colonies was printed, as would make sense, by newspaper printers. Timothy Green, a legendary newspaperman in Connecticut, was among the first to provide these notes — including this incredible artifact, issued in New London in 1776: the same year the United States of America came into existence (indeed, Green's paper was the first to print the Declaration of Independence). Measures approximately 5"x 4". Condition and denominations will vary (many notes this old have slash marks, wear and tear, and even sometimes other period documents glued to them for longevity).
