About the Bismarck
Commissioned in 1940 as the lead ship of her class, the Bismarck displaced over 50,000 tons at full load and carried eight 15-inch main guns. Her only major sortie, in May 1941, resulted in the sinking of HMS Hood and triggered a large-scale Royal Navy pursuit that ended in Bismarck's own sinking days later.
