About the 1964½ Mustang
Ford unveiled the Mustang to the public on April 17, 1964, earning it the nickname "1964½" even though it was officially sold as a 1965 model. The very first production unit, a Wimbledon White convertible with serial number 5F08F100001, was mistakenly sold to an airline pilot before Ford discovered the error; Ford eventually traded him a new Mustang for it and placed the original in its company museum, where it remains today.
