About the A-4 Skyhawk

Designed by Ed Heinemann for the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps in the early 1950s, the compact, delta-wing A-4 Skyhawk needed no wing-folding mechanism for carrier storage despite its light weight. Powered by a single turbojet engine, it saw extensive combat during the Vietnam War in ground-attack, close-air-support, and training roles, and was valued for its toughness, reliability, and low operating costs across decades of service with multiple air arms.
