About the Apache

The Apache entered U.S. Army service in 1986, and Apaches of Task Force Normandy fired the opening shots of Operation Desert Storm in 1991, destroying Iraqi early-warning radar sites. The Longbow variant added the mast-mounted radar dome and radar-guided Hellfire missiles that define the helicopter's silhouette today.
