About the Bf 110

Entering Luftwaffe service in 1937 as a long-range escort and heavy fighter, the twin-engine Bf 110 was powered by two Daimler-Benz DB 601 engines for a top speed of around 340 mph. Its limited maneuverability made it vulnerable to faster single-engine fighters such as the Spitfire during the Battle of Britain, but the type found lasting success in night-fighter and reconnaissance roles for the rest of the war.
