About the B-47
The B-47 was a long-range, six-engine, jet-powered strategic bomber designed to fly at high subsonic speeds, around 600 mph, and at high altitude to reduce the risk of interception, with a primary Cold War mission of delivering nuclear weapons. Its engines were mounted in pods beneath swept wings that could flex significantly in flight, features that made it a notable innovation in postwar bomber design.
