About the figure
The Anglo-Saxon name Broga means "terror." At the time of the migrations from Germany to England, some warriors carried swords of the late Roman pattern, the spatha, typically 29" to 32" long and about 3" broad, with a shallow central groove, or fuller, that lightened the blade without reducing its strength. Swords were highly valued possessions, often passed down through generations.
