About the F-14A Tomcat

Developed by Grumman and introduced in the 1970s, the F-14A was the U.S. Navy's primary carrier-based air superiority fighter for decades, distinguished by variable-sweep wings that adjusted for different flight regimes. Powered by two Pratt & Whitney TF30 engines with a top speed over Mach 2.3, it carried the long-range AIM-54 Phoenix missile for fleet air defense. VF-41 was among the first Atlantic Fleet squadrons to fly the Tomcat operationally.
