The F-35, a 5th generation stealth strike fighter, was first flown on December 15, 2006, and it is one of the most sophisticated aircraft of our time, said to be four times more effective at air-to-air combat and eight times more effective at air-to-ground combat than any other existing aircraft. Designed and built for its carrier operations, the F-35C was also designed with larger wings and a more robust landing gear than other variants, making it useful for catapult launches and fly-in arrestments aboard naval aircraft carriers.
This 1/72 scale, Hobby Master, die cast model replicates an F-35C that, while once flown by the VX-23 "Salty Dogs," now wears the markings of the VX-9 "Vampires" on its wing while stationed at Edwards Air Force Base in 2016. It also comes with interchangeable extended/retracted landing gear that can be shown in the down or up positions, a presentation stand, authentic detachable ordnance loads, and an opening canopy that reveals the cockpit interior. Constructed out of metal with some plastic components, it measure 8½" long and 7" wide.
