About the F-84G Thunderjet
Developed by Republic in the immediate postwar period to give the USAF a jet-powered fighter-bomber, the F-84 used a simple, sturdy airframe with a circular nose intake and tricycle landing gear. The F-84G, which entered production in 1951, was powered by an Allison J35 engine reaching speeds up to 1,000 km/h, was armed with six 12.7mm machine guns, and could carry nearly 900 kg of ordnance. Beyond the USAF, it equipped several NATO air forces, including Italy's from 1952 onward.
