Utilized extensively by both the Americans and British during the early part of WWII, the F4F Wildcat was manufactured to compete with the Japanese A6M Zero in the Pacific Theater. The F4F-4 variant saw more combat than any Wildcat model, including the Battle of Midway, and was the premiere U.S. naval fighter of the early years of the conflict.
