The VF-111 "Sundowners" brought their F9F-2B Panthers to Korea aboard the USS Philippine Sea (CV-47) in late 1950. Noted as the first person to ever record a jet-to-jet victory, VF-111 Lt. Commander William Amen acted as lead aircraft when five MiG-15s were encountered, supporting fellow F4U Corsairs and AD-4 Skyraiders, on November 9, 1950. Later on, VF-111 was upgraded to the F9F-5 Panther and continued to accompany missions with the USS Valley Forge, USS Boxer, and USS Lake Champlain.< /br>
