The Fokker Dr.I was a German World War I triplane fighter aircraft made famous by Manfred von Richthofen, the "Red Baron." Introduced in 1917, the Dr.I was designed by Reinhold Platz and manufactured by Fokker-Flugzeugwerke. Its distinctive three-wing configuration gave it superior maneuverability and excellent climb rate, allowing it to out-turn most Allied aircraft. Powered by a 110-horsepower rotary engine, the Dr.I had a top speed of about 115 mph (185 km/h) and was armed with twin synchronized 7.92 mm machine guns. Though relatively slow and fragile compared to its contemporaries, the triplane's agility made it a deadly dogfighter in the hands of skilled pilots. However, structural weaknesses and limited production numbers meant it had a short operational lifespan. Despite this, the Fokker Dr.I remains one of the most iconic aircraft of the First World War, symbolizing the daring and romance of early aerial combat.
