This He 162 Volksjager was based on a Salamander given to the RAF by the Luftwaffe after they surrendered in May of 1945. Once captured they analyzed the aircraft for weaknesses and found that the rudder had a potential flaw. On November 9, 1945, part of the rudder and tailfin broke off during a demonstration flight of the Volksjager at RAE Farnborough that resulted in the death of the pilot Flt. Lt. R. A. Marks and a soldier aboard.
