About the Ju 87 Stuka
First flying in 1935 and combat-tested with the Condor Legion during the Spanish Civil War, the two-seat Ju 87 Stuka was easily recognized by its inverted gull wings and fixed landing gear, and it featured automatic pull-up dive brakes that helped the aircraft recover from its attack dive even if the pilot blacked out. It provided close air support to the German Wehrmacht's Panzer divisions early in the war but showed its weaknesses during the Battle of Britain against faster, better-armed fighters like the Hurricane and Spitfire.
