About the RF-5E Tiger Eye
Developed by Northrop as a private-venture reconnaissance version of the F-5E Tiger II, the RF-5E Tiger Eye replaced the fighter's radar and one cannon with a longer camera nose. The first prototype, converted from an existing F-5E airframe, made its first flight from Edwards Air Force Base on January 29, 1979, before undergoing flight evaluation and eventual export production for allied air forces.
