About the River Rats
Formed in 1967 by Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force aircrews flying strikes over North Vietnam's Red River Valley, the Red River Valley Fighter Pilots Association became known as the "River Rats." Its emblem depicts the Red River, a star marking Hanoi, and Thud Ridge, terrain that gave F-105 Thunderchief crews cover on their bombing runs.
