About the Marder III
The Sd.Kfz. 138 Marder III was built on the chassis of the Czechoslovak-designed Panzer 38(t) light tank, fitted with an open, shielded superstructure mounting the 75mm PaK 40 anti-tank gun. Entering production in 1942 for the Eastern Front, it gave German forces an effective, relatively easy-to-produce tank destroyer that remained in service on all fronts until the war's end.
