Stan Stokes. Although the Americans and British are more often credited with developing aircraft technology during its earliest years, the Italians were also influential within the field, particularly engineer Count Gianni Caproni di Taliedo. Caproni was responsible numerous aircraft flown by the Italians during World War I, including the Ca.4 series of bombers first seen in 1917. This print depicts the heavy bomber flying over the calm and majestic city of Venice, far removed from the horrors of trench warfare. Signed by the artist. 16"x 11½".
