The USS Enterprise (CV-65) was a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier that served in the United States Navy from 1961 to 2012. The eighth ship to bear the name, it was the world's first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier and was often referred to as "Big E." The Enterprise had a length of 1,123 feet and could carry over 60 aircraft, making it a formidable force on the seas. Its service spanned more than five decades, during which it played a key role in numerous military operations, including the Gulf War and the Iraq War. The ship earned 20 battle stars for its service. Enterprise was decommissioned in 2012 after a final deployment, and in 2013, it was formally retired and sent to the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for dismantling. Its legacy remains a symbol of American naval power and technological advancement.
