About the Book
The book traces the military struggle between Vikings and Anglo-Saxons for control of England across two centuries, from the Vikings' early successes in the 860s and 870s through the takeover of Norse settlements in the mid-10th century and the Danish conquest of 1016. It closes with the 1066 defeat of the Norwegian king Harald Hardrada at Stamford Bridge, an event that marked the end of the Viking Age in England.
