The YF-23 Black Widow II was a prototype stealth fighter developed by Northrop in the 1980s for the U.S. Air Force's Advanced Tactical Fighter program. Designed to rival the F-22 Raptor, the YF-23 featured a sleek, angular design optimized for stealth, with advanced composite materials and a minimal radar signature. Powered by twin Pratt & Whitney F119 engines, it was capable of supercruise, flying at supersonic speeds without afterburners. The aircraft had impressive maneuverability and range, along with cutting-edge avionics and radar systems. Despite its superior performance, the YF-23 was outperformed in the program's final selection by the F-22. Only two prototypes were built, and the YF-23 remains a fascinating example of cutting-edge stealth technology, with its sleek design earning it the nickname "Black Widow" for its sinister appearance.
