The EA-6 Prowler was a twin-engine, carrier-based electronic warfare aircraft developed by Grumman for the United States Navy and Marine Corps. Introduced in the early 1970s, it was derived from the A-6 Intruder airframe but redesigned to carry advanced electronic countermeasures equipment. Crew members included one pilot and three electronic countermeasures officers who operated sophisticated jamming and surveillance systems. Powered by two Pratt & Whitney J52 turbojet engines, the EA-6 specialized in disrupting enemy radar and communications, protecting strike aircraft during combat missions. It could also carry AGM-88 HARM missiles to target and destroy enemy air defense systems. The Prowler served extensively in conflicts from Vietnam to Iraq, proving essential in modern warfare before being replaced by the EA-18G Growler in the late 2010s.
