About the F-14 Tomcat
Distinguished by its variable-sweep wings, twin tail and tandem two-seat cockpit, the F-14 entered service in the 1970s, replacing the F-4 Phantom II in the air superiority role. Powered by two afterburning turbofans capable of a top speed of Mach 2.34, it was armed with a 20mm M61 Vulcan cannon along with AIM-9 Sidewinder, AIM-7 Sparrow and AIM-54 Phoenix long-range missiles, and it served in operations from the Gulf of Sidra crisis through the Iraq War.
