Delivered to VF-102 "Diamondbacks" in 1972, the F-4J Phantom II was assigned to USS Independence where it became the CAG's aircraft. In late 1976, it had been transferred to VF-103 "Jolly Rogers" until it was sent to the boneyard. After being moved to No. 74 Squadron in the RAF, the F-4J suffered a low-level crash during training in August 1986.< /br>
