About the Golden Crown team and the F-86 Sabre
Golden Crown was Iran's first national aerobatic display team, formed by fighter pilot Nader Jahanbani in 1958 while flying Republic F-84G Thunderjets. The team converted to six F-86 Sabres in 1961, flying the type for roughly a decade before eventually converting to the F-5. Introduced by North American Aviation in 1949, the transonic F-86 became one of the Korean War's most prominent fighters, credited with strong results against Soviet-built MiG-15s and armed with six .50-caliber machine guns; more than 9,800 were built for air forces worldwide.
