About the Leib Regiment

The Leib Regiment was among the first Hessian battalions to arrive in British North America, commanded by Colonel Friedrich von Wurmb and led nominally by Erbprinz Wilhelm of Hesse-Kassel. British officer Major Mackenzie of the 23rd Royal Welsh Fusiliers described Wurmb as "clear headed and cool" and his regiment as "the best disciplined in the Hessian Corps." The regiment fought at White Plains, Brandywine, Germantown and Monmouth before serving garrison duty in New York from 1778 to 1783.
