Peterson. Hidden within the Pacific Northwest, McChord Field remains elusive to their once significant role in major conflicts around the world. On July 3, 1940, McChord opened as a training base which developed bomber crews for B-17s, 18s, 25s, and 26s, along with a few of the Doolittle Raiders. It also acted as an aircraft modification center, producing P-39s for the Soviet Union, and it was a homeland defense center during WWII. In addition, the hub supported humanitarian, Antarctic, and wartime missions for America. 128 pages, 182 B&W photos, 6½"x 9¼", softcover.
