About the Me 410 and its pilot
The twin-engine Me 410 was used by the Luftwaffe in long-range night-intruder operations late in World War II, aiming to disrupt Allied bomber streams and catch aircraft off guard as they approached base, working alongside the regular night-bomber force. Britain's air-defense network made any incursion a costly one, and RAF de Havilland Mosquito night fighters took a heavy toll on Luftwaffe aircraft of all types, including the Me 410. This aircraft's camouflage scheme, suited to night-intruder operations, is marked for Rudolf Abrahamczik, a highly decorated bomber pilot credited with at least 233 combat missions, many of them in this role.
