Part of the historic Essex-Class aircraft carriers, the USS Hancock (CV-19) was commissioned in April 1944. She began her combat career in October of that year, assigned to Task Group 38.2 in the Pacific Theater. The USS Hancock finished her World War II service with four Battle Stars, going on to also serve in Vietnam before her ultimate retirement in 1976.
