Plastic model kits from Atlantis Models bring back vintage tooling from the golden age of American hobby kits, reissuing classic hot rods, dragsters, and show cars originally produced by names like Aurora, Revell, Monogram, and Renwal. Every kit ships unassembled and unpainted, built for the modeler who wants to work from original 1950s-through-1970s tooling rather than a modern reproduction.

About Atlantis Models

Atlantis Models was founded in 2009 by Peter Vetri and Rick DelFavero, the former owners of the online hobby retailer Megahobby.com, who set out to build a real model production company rather than stay a retailer. Based in Deer Park, New York, the company built its catalog by rescuing and restoring vintage plastic model tooling — including a major 2018 acquisition of molds from Revell, Monogram, and Aurora dating back to the early 1950s — securing original box art and reverse-engineering lost details where needed to bring the kits back into production.

What Makes Atlantis Models Collectible

Atlantis Models' catalog runs through hot rod and drag racing history — dragsters and funny cars tied to real racers like Tom McEwen and Don Prudhomme, custom show cars from designers like Tom Daniel, and classic Ed Roth builds — reproduced from tooling that in some cases hasn't been in production for decades. Because the kits use original vintage molds rather than new tooling, building one is as close as a modern modeler can get to the exact kit a builder would have opened in the 1960s or 70s.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do Atlantis Models kits come pre-assembled?
No — like other model kit brands, Atlantis kits ship unassembled and unpainted for the builder to finish.

Are Atlantis Models kits made from original vintage tooling?
Many are — the company acquired molds from Revell, Monogram, and Aurora dating back to the early 1950s, and reissues them alongside newer tooling.

Where are Atlantis Models kits made?
The company is based in Deer Park, New York.

What kinds of subjects does Atlantis Models focus on?
Primarily hot rods, drag racing history, and classic show cars, including kits tied to real racers and designers like Tom McEwen, Don Prudhomme, and Tom Daniel.

Who founded Atlantis Models?
Peter Vetri and Rick DelFavero, former owners of the online hobby retailer Megahobby.com, in 2009.

Shop Historic Aviation's Atlantis Models lineup for vintage hot rod and drag racing kits built from original tooling. Whether you're chasing a specific 1960s dragster or a classic show car, it's a direct link to the golden age of American model kits.
